I’m tired. It’s a really busy week. We have our big conference coming up at work today through Friday, and I am working on a big proposal that has a really tight deadline. I plan on leaving for North Carolina on vacation on Friday, and I don’t plan on working while I’m gone. To top it off, I’m having to keep up with my mountain backpacking training AND I’ve started a detox program to work on my energy level and well-being. Whew….. I think that’s enough for one week.
I got everything packed into my backpack last night and halfway packed my suitcase. I don’t plan on backpacking, but I do plan on carrying my fully-loaded pack on several hikes to get these legs in shape for my Smoky Mountain trip in May. And I hope to camp at least one or two nights weather-permitting. I know Ashok would love it.
Ashok is staying with a climbing coach in Brevard NC who lives in a bachelor pad with several other roommates. Even though where I’m staying doesn’t allow pets, I wanted her to be able to hike with me at least a few times, so I wanted to board her there instead of in Baton Rouge. My brother Terry and his wife, Laura, generously gave me a week at a timeshare, so I have some great digs to stay in while I explore Pisgah National Forest with the Badass Backpacking Babes. I can’t wait. The closer it gets, the more excited I am. The only downside is that I know that once it starts, it will be over way too fast.
The weather is looking sweet for this trip. There’s a little rain in the forecast but it looks like it might be on the last day before we head home. If we can hike every day before then, we’ll be ready for some rest and shopping. I’m getting my curls cut by my favorite DevaCurl stylist Thursday in Asheville, and then we’re headed out to dinner in town. Asheville is a mecca of great restaurants and bars, and I’m thrilled to have a hair stylist in another state. Who else has that????
So, anyway, I may not have another chance to blog before the end of the week. I’m sure I’ll post some trail summaries and travel stories next week. The best thing about vacation is you just have no idea how it’s all going to turn out. No telling what will happen next week. But you can be sure whatever happens, it will be an adventure!
