I’m not a big fan of New Year’s Resolutions. I’m always listening to my body and making changes based on the way I feel and trying to improve my life along the way. But I do like to take some time each year to decide what is working for me and finding ways to motivate myself to continue on that path.
There are several things that really helped me this year:
- Staying off sugar and eating healthier in general.
- Practicing yoga often. I wish I could do it daily but I’ll have to settle for often.
- Meditating daily and regularly. I actually do that several times a day in short spurts.
- Running regularly. I would like to evolve that to be more social this year!
So, I’ve decided to do some things that have already worked for me and continue to evolve these practices.
I bought a new cookbook from WW, and I’m trying some new recipes. The last couple of mornings I had a delicious tofu scramble, and one morning I had a bowl of lentil soup for breakfast. My tummy felt so nourished and calm after eating a savory breakfast, and I didn’t get hungry until lunch. So I’ll continue to explore recipes with that in mind.
I already registered for the Hot Chocolate 15K in November 2019. That will be my target race for the year. I’m going to skip the long distances this year. A 15K distance will be long enough for a season, and I can concentrate on developing speed and strength. I ran this race last year, and it was so much fun. Leaves were turning for fall in the city, the course was beautiful, and of the 40,000 participants, 70% were women. I want to get a group of women together and make this a fun social event. You game for a great weekend in Chicago at a great time of the year? They also have a 5K if 15K is too much, or we can always use cheerleaders!
In order to stay fit for running, I’m signing up for Jessica’s Fit Camp again. It’s 12 weeks of strength training that can be done at home or at the gym for $200. She has a virtual option along with a Facebook group. I’m no longer on Facebook so I won’t have the group support. However, I love the short circuits that bring great results that I can do at home. I’ll also keep her as a running coach. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
I signed up for Adrienne’s Dedicate 30-Day Yoga Challenge. I’ve done her challenges 3 years in a row. Sometimes I complete it. Sometimes I struggle. But having a new yoga class every day to kick off the new year makes me stronger mentally, physically and emotionally. How’s that for results? And she’s funny to boot!
I’m noodling signing up for a 10-day silent meditation retreat. I’m not committed to it yet. I’ve gotten such great results from meditation that I’d like to get more committed. Another option would be to find a local meditation group. I still have my 10% Happier app, and I use it multiple times per day. I’ll continue that, but I’m looking for more on that front. I’ll let you know when I decide on something.
