I’m tired, depressed and don’t feel very well today. I’ve taken care of myself though. I know that this, too, shall pass. So, I did my exercise, ate healthy, baked some bread and made some homemade soup. I took a long nap and meditated three times just because I hoped it would shift me out of this funk. No such luck. It’s okay, though. There will always be days like this.
I’m going to go to bed early and hopefully get lots of sleep, but I’d like to share some pics from my beautiful day yesterday hiking off the M-20 Trailhead in Manistee National Forest. The trail is a section of the North Country Trail. While I was driving up in the beautiful sunny weather, I was so looking forward to a nice hike in the woods. I only saw patches of snow here and there, so I hoped to hike two hours out and then two hours back.
The parking lot at the trailhead was literally covered in ice. I slipped around but managed to stay upright while I got my pack out and lightly put Ashok down so she wouldn’t slide all the way across the parking lot. The trail, with the exception of about 15 feet of dry ground was still covered in snow. It was slushy because the temps were above 32, but it was still slippery.
We hiked for about an hour and ten minutes before the snow pack got to about a foot high. I was working up a sweat from the effort of sinking into the snow and having to pull my foot out constantly. As light as Ashok was, she didn’t break through, but I was getting exhausted. It was weird to be hiking in that much snow when it was warm enough to be out in a sweatshirt.
It was just nice to be out in the woods. There was a pretty little creek which is supposed to be host to a lot of wildflowers when that time arrives. I estimate we have a few weeks before they push up through that snow. But the first day of spring was a nice day to be out even if the second day of spring has sucked. Even the birds seemed to be out and about and that was a welcome sound.
Hope y’all have a great week! If you are in an area where spring is in full bloom, I envy you. Enjoy!
